The Process
The development team employed a collaborative 6-month community design process, utilizing a variety of outreach strategies to gather information. This included over 400 online and in-person survey responses on major themes to create the initial designs and over 200 responses to rate specific site plan options. Major themes
After obtaining survey data, we also hosted or attended 22 separate community meetings to narrow down the design iterations and continue to shape the site plan through community feedback.
The Result
Many hard choices were made to find the best balance of financial feasibility, community value, and neighbors’ concerns. Each meeting built on the last to shape a development plan supported by local residents.
Consensus is difficult to achieve, but we reached a balanced plan democratically and received unanimous rezoning approval from SAND, EACA, NPU-W and City Council in May of 2019.
